1883 Steamboat Gothic (Victorian)
on Schroon Lake, in the Adirondack State Park, NY

On the southernmost tip of the property known as Wood's Lodge is one of the few remaining structures from Schroon's boom era.  This lake house will remain an iconic image of Schroon Lake at its best.

My love for the people of Schroon Lake and the Seagle Music Colony (in particular) inspired me to create something of value in Schroon Lake. The tranquility of the Adirondacks draws me back to nature. And hopefully, in a few years, the Inn on Schroon Lake will attract people into the Town to share both.

Turning the entire property into an Inn requires a significant financial investment and a huge leap of faith.  Can it be the spark that encourages others to open more restaurants and shops in town?  Is the time right to get out the word that a Schroon Lake vacation is an experience you will  want to repeat year after year?

Renovating the lake house will take time, money, and great care.  The stone foundation under the house is sound, the porch foundations - not so much.  Carved wood topping the porches and around the attic roof retains its beauty.  Inside, she needs some spiffing up.  Okay, a lot of spiffing up.  Old paint needs to go out, 21st century wiring needs to go in.  The other buildings on the site need even more help.  We are in the early planning phase and will publish information on the rich history and exciting developments as time and inspiration allows.  Check back for updates.

I am undertaking this project, in part, in honor of my husband and daughter, and in memory of my son, Nathan Pitkin (and his father), parents Ron and Phyrne Pitkin, and grandparents Larry and Coral Pitkin, all lovers of Schroon Lake.

  1. We wish you every success and we join in your purpose of sustaining and reviving the village of Schroon Lake. The peaceful natural and human scale of Schroon and the Adirondacks have been what has drawn my back for six decades. I have spent many happy and useful hours in the Lake House and on it's porch and have lamented the years it has been unavailable.
As a native of Fairfax County, Virginia, I have returned to Schroon Lake since my first trip there in 1954. We too are proud investors in the history of Schroon having acquired one of the other heritages of the Wood's family, Camp Tali Chito on the other side of the Lake. Although our historic property is about 35 ot 40 years younger than the Lake house.

  2. Thanks for writing. I had the pleasure of Ed Surovell's company last summer so I knew you live locally.
Don't believe I've ever been to Tali Chito but I have heard how beautiful it is.
We are in the early design phase of the Inn right now. We have a vision of what the Inn will be and are working on fleshing that out. Then it will be on to figuring out how to finance the renovations. The process is energizing!
